Metro Manila Covid-19 positivity rate 'dips back' to 2.3%, says OCTA fellow

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said the positivity rate of Covid-19 in Metro Manila "dipped back” to 2.3 percent after a temporary increase due to more people being tested positive for the disease.

In an update posted on social media on Monday, Jan. 30, David said the weekly positivity rate in Metro Manila dropped to 2.3 percent on Jan. 28, from 2.4 percent on Jan. 27.

“For now, it looks like the spike is just a one off. Hopefully, the positivity rate continues to trend downward. We will continue to monitor the trends,” David said.

On Sunday, Jan. 29, the OCTA fellow observed an increase in the positivity rate of Covid-19 in Metro Manila, which increased to 2.4 percent on Jan. 27, from 2.0 percent on Jan. 28, while it was at 2.5 percent during the previous week.

Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from those who were tested for Covid-19.

Metro Manila’s current positivity rate is still within the recommended World Health Organization rate of 5 percent or less to show that the spread of the virus is under control.

Based on the data of the Department of Health, Metro Manila registered 166 new Covid-19 cases on Jan. 29.
