Marcos visits wake of slain OFW; vows help for kin

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has made a visit to the wake of Jullebee Ranara, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) killed in Kuwait, and vowed to help her family in all of their needs.

Marcos offered his sympathy to Ranara's family and told them that the government will now be the one to realize Ranara's dream for her family.

"Kaya naman nagsakripisyo ang anak nila na magtrabaho sa abroad ay dahil may mga pangarap siya para sa kanyang pamilya kaya sinabi ko na: ngayon na wala na yung anak ninyo kami na lang ang tutupad ng pangarap niya (The reason their daughter sacrificed to work abroad was because she has dreams for her family so I said: now that your daughter is gone, we will be the one to realize her dreams)," he said after he attended the wake in Las Piñas City.

The President also revealed that the Philippines is setting bilateral meetings with Kuwait to look into the existing agreement between the two countries and correct whatever "weaknesses" it has in order to prevent a repeat of the incident.

"On the other side of it, we are also scheduling bilateral meetings with Kuwait to look at the agreement that we have to see if there are any weaknesses in the agreement that allowed this to happen and to make sure that those weaknesses are remedied so that the agreement is more stronger and will be more supportive of our workers," Marcos said.

"And we hope that this will never happen again to anyone of our countrymen," he added.

According to the Foreign Affairs, Ran​ara was a 35-year-old Filipino domestic helper in Kuwait who was raped before being burned by the son of her employer.
