Marcos talks with China, US business leaders on infra, culture

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has met with private sector leaders from China and the United States to discuss the Philippines' infrastructure and business partnerships with both countries.

In a Twitter post, the Office of the President (OP) said Marcos met officials from the China Communications Construction Co., Ltd (CCCC) led by its Chairperson Wang Tongzhou in Malacañang on Monday, Jan. 30.

"They discussed the updates of the current infrastructure projects and reviewed the infrastructure and agriculture development proposals," it wrote.

The Beijing-based CCCC is under the supervision of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC).

The CCCC was involved in constructing the China-funded Binondo-Intramuros Friendship Bridge, which opened to traffic in July 2021.

The bridge spans both sides of the Pasig River and connects Manila's Chinatown with Intramuros, with a total length of about 678 meters and a 70-meter lift-arch bridge with four lanes in each direction.

On its website, the CCCC said it had "attached great importance to the protection of the local environment and cultural relics during the construction process and actively transferred advanced and mature bridge construction technology to the Philippines."

Meanwhile, The President also met with the US-Philippines Society and talked about business, cooperation, people-to-people ties, transnational issues, and the 2023 domestic outlook for the Philippines.

Based on its website, the US-Philippines Society is a private sector initiative organized "to broaden and expand interaction and understanding through basic research and applied research in the areas of security, trade, investments, tourism, the environment, history, education and culture" between the two countries, which would benefit the American public and the people of the Philippines.
