JICA not involved in Davao City WTE project


DAVAO CITY – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is not involved in the proposed construction of the waste-to-energy (WTE) project of the Davao City government contrary to claims made by various groups here, the agency’s executive said.

In a statement dated Jan. 26, Ide Soichiro, senior representative of JICA Philippines, clarified that they are neither funding nor implementing the construction of the proposed WTE facility.

The official reaffirmed the continuous support of JICA for environment management, natural environment preservation, and other sectors towards sustainable, resilient, and inclusive growth.

The agency is determined to continue working with stakeholders to help the country address development challenges, he added.

He emphasized JICA’s development cooperation is centered on integrated society efforts in addressing climate change issues. “We care for climate change issues.”
