A total of 50 fire victims have been transferred to new temporary shelters in C4 Road, Brgy. Tañong, Malabon City on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
The victims were the residents affected by the fire that gutted homes on Mabolo Street in Barangay Maysilo, Malabon City, last Dec. 22 and were initially brought to the evacuation site in Maysilo Elementary School.
The 50 residents are composed of 14 families, including four senior citizens, and 18 children.
They were the first, out of the two batches, to transfer to new evacuation shelters, Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said.
The Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) said the new shelters were the city's former isolation facility. Each room has a bed and a comfort room.
The mayor, along with Malabon Chief of Police Col. Amante Daro, Malabon DRRMO, and Community Urban Poor Affairs Office (CUPAO) accompanied the fire victims.
"Makakaasa po kayo na tuloy-tuloy ang aming pag-agapay sa inyo hanggang sa tuluyan pong makaahon ang bawat isa (We will continue to support you until everyone has recovered)," Sandoval said.
The city government said the victims will also be supplied with food and water.
