Celeste Cortesi ready for 71st Miss Universe Competition in New Orleans

Miss Universe Philippines Celeste Cortesi is ready to compete in the 71st Miss Universe Pageant in New Orleans, Louisiana on Jan. 14 (Jan. 15, Manila time).

On social media, Celeste shared photos of her send-off party in Los Angeles, California where she stayed for almost three weeks when she arrived in the US in December. She wore a red terno designed by young Filipino designer Chris Nick.

"It's amazing! This is my first time in the US and I really enjoyed so much especially the people are so kind and so welcoming. Of course, I had to focus a lot on my training so I did that and I spent a lot of time with my team so I'm very grateful," said Celeste, 24, in a video clip during an interview for ABS-CBN.

Aside from her mom, Celeste said that her boyfriend Matthew Custodio will also be rooting for her in New Orleans.

On her chances of becoming the fifth Miss Universe from the Philippines, Celeste said: “I don’t wanna say anything because we will only know on the coronation night,” she said. “Miss Universe is a destiny, a destiny given to just a few women in the world. If it’s my destiny, I will be very happy about it but if it is for another woman, then it is what it is. We just have to accept that. But for sure, I’m gonna do my best to represent the country and to bring home the crown."

At her send-off, Father Thomas also prayed for Celeste's success at the pageant.

Eighty-five lovely women will vie for the title of Miss Universe 2022.
