PAGASA monitoring potential LPA east of Mindanao

Cloud clusters spotted east of Mindanao are being closely monitored by the state weather bureau as it could potentially form into a low pressure area (LPA).

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda on Sunday morning, Jan. 29, said no tropical cyclone is expected to affect the Philippines within the forecast period, but a potential LPA was spotted.

“Meron tayong mga cloud clusters na minomonitor sa silangan ng Mindanao. Continuous monitoring tayo sa mga kaulapan na ito sa posibilidad na ito ay magkaroon ng sirkulasyon at maging LPA (We are currently monitoring cloud clusters in the eastern section of Mindanao. We are continuously monitoring this for its possibility to develop circulation and form into an LPA),” said Castañeda.

Apart from this, the state weather bureau is also monitoring two weather systems: the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” and the shear line.

The shear line is particularly bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Oriental. Residents of these areas were strongly advised to remain vigilant against possible flash floods and landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is blowing cold winds and causing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rains in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon.

The rest of the country, according to Castañeda, may expect a better weather condition with chances of isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
