CEBU CITY – Get into sports, not into drugs.

The chief of the Community Affairs and Development Division of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) echoed this call of a young football team whose deeds he said are worth emulating for.
Col. Antonietto Cañete commended the football team of Benthel Asia School of Technology in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu for promoting sports as a way to keep children from bad vices.
“I admire these kids. At a young age, they are already aware of the issues that concern society. They know the problem that needs immediate solution," Cañete said.
Cañete was visited by the team last week, a few days after the young athletes won the Sinulog Football Cup 2023.
During the visit, the team expressed support to the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) program.
KKDAT is part of the Buhay ay Ingatan Droga ay Ayawan program of the PNP and the Department of Interior and Local Government.
“We are thankful that we have this kind of group of children who support our program against illegal drugs,” said Cañete.
Cañete said having a group of youngsters that espouses sports to avoid illegal drug use and other vices is very important as the youth is the most affected by the drug menace. “Their hope is that their advocacy will be imitated by more children,” Cañete added.
He encouraged other schools to come up with programs involving sports to keep children from illegal activities.
