Army trooper wounded in Quezon clash


A soldier was wounded in an encounter with the New People’s Army in Sitio Mabato, Barangay Pansoy, San Andres, Quezon on Friday, Jan. 27.

Police identified the wounded as Private First Class Johnson Carlos.

The 85th Infantry Battalion, 405th Maneuver Company, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4-A were conducting combat patrol operation when they met 15 NPA rebels led by Alejandro Pinpin, alias “Julio,” and Joseph delos Santos, alias “Bingot,” resulting in a 45-minute gun battle.

Troops recovered an improvised explosive device and subversive documents and found blood stains in the escape route of the communist guerrillas after the encounter.

A resident told the military that the rebels, who introduced themselves as members of the “Hukbo” and had two female fighters or amazons, stayed in his house overnight on Thursday, Jan. 26.
