Storm surge damages 13 houses in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Thirteen houses were damaged by a storm surge in the eastern coastline of Barangay Bolong here on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Barangay Bolong Chairman Ruben Corros said affected families were informal settlers and families of fishermen living in the area for a long time.

Corros ordered a forced evacuation to prevent casualties.

A portion of the seawall or shoreline protection going towards Sitio Pitas was also destroyed.

The Barangay Bolong council and the city government provided initial assistance to the victims.

The city government is currently looking for a relocation site for the victims to prevent a similar incident.
