The low pressure area east of Mindanao dissipated on Thursday, Jan. 26, but the shear line and northeast monsoon may continue to bring rains over parts of Luzon and Visayas this weekend, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, Jan. 27.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms because of the shear line may prevail over Eastern Visayas, Aklan, Capiz, Albay, Masbate, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Palawan, and Romblon.

Shear line is the boundary between cold and warm air masses.

PAGASA said the northeast monsoon or “amihan” may also bring rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, and Marinduque.

Those in areas affected by the shear line and amihan are advised to remain vigilant during moderate to heavy rains as they may cause flooding or landslides.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light amihan rains.

PAGASA said the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

It also advised the public to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
