Man arrested for possession of shabu, firearm in Taguig

Police operatives arrested a man for possession of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and a firearm in Taguig.

According to the Taguig City Police, the suspect, identified as Bernardo Tiñga, 56, was nabbed recently in a police operation on P. Mariano Street in Barangay Ususan.

The cops seized from the suspect more than P95,000 worth of suspected shabu.

Also confiscated from Tiñga were one .45-caliber pistol, one empty magazine and six pieces of ammunition for .45-caliber gun.

The raid was conducted by the Taguig Police Substation 4 based on a search warrant issued by Taguig City Regional Trial Court Branch 15-FC Judge Byron San Pedro.

"Taguig has a very strong anti-illegal drugs stance. In fact, Mayor Lani Cayetano herself has a marching order for the City to be rid of these illegal substances. We assure the public that the Taguig Police will not rest until we achieve this goal," said Taguig police chief Col. Robert Baesa.

The Taguig police force has been credited for placing members of a drug syndicate behind bars.

In 2016, one Joel Tiñga was sentenced to reclusion perpetua for selling illegal drugs. Another member of the syndicate, Elisa “Ely” Tiñga, was meted out the same punishment in February 2017, according to the police report.

In 2020, a buy-bust operation led to the seizure of over P20 million worth of shabu and the arrest of Patrick Ace Tiñga.
