Barangay captain, four family members killed in Zamboanga del Norte ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A barangay captain and four members of his family were killed during an ambush in Sirawai town in Zamboanga del Norte on Thursday, Jan. 27.
PMaj. Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-9 Public Information Officer, identified the victims as Allie Lomiguis Manangca, barangay captain of Balubuan here, and four members of his family, namely, Ani Lomiguis Manangca, Anisa Jaji Manangca, Alfahad Lomiguis Manangca and Musaddin Basa.
Major Chang said the victims all died on the spot.
Major Chang said the victims were on board barangay captain Manangca’s pickup type truck and were travelling from Sirawai proper to Balubuan when armed men strafed their vehicle using high-powered firearms.
The gunmen reportedly approached the vehicle to finish off the victims.
Norman Darus Tulino and Alwaf Basa Manangca were wounded in the attack.
Police are looking at personal grudge as a possible motive in the attack.
Authorities are still conducting hot pursuit operations to arrest the suspects.
