Parts of the country will continue to experience rains due to the low pressure area (LPA) and shear line, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Jan. 26.

In its 10 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said the LPA was last spotted 40 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Although it may dissipate within the next two days, PAGASA said the LPA along with the shear line may bring moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Visayas and Caraga in the next 24 hours.

Shear line is the boundary between cold air from the northeast monsoon and warm air from the LPA.

PAGASA said the combined effect of the LPA and shear line may also bring light to occasional heavy rains over Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao.

“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.

PAGASA advised the public and concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to take all necessary precautionary measures.

Moreover, rains may also prevail over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Bicol Region, Aurora, Laguna, Quezon, Marinduque, and Oriental Mindoro due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”

The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will be partly cloudy to cloudy with light amihan rains.
