Killed in the accident was Arlo Galleron, 31, of Barangay Luna, while the injured were Arturo Pateno, 42, of Barangay Magsaysay, and Roger Decanay, 30, of Bacolod City.

Lt. Gina Fernandez, deputy police chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said a dump truck driven by Joseph Coniendo, 53, of Sagay City, was tailing a cargo truck driven by Pateno, when the former encountered mechanical trouble.

Fernandez said Coniendo lost control over the dump truck, as a result of which, it hit the cargo truck.

Fernandez said the cargo truck then crashed into a tricycle which was parked at the road side.

Thereafter, the cargo truck swerved into the opposite lane and collided with two motorcycles driven by Galleron and Decanay, she added.

Fernandez said that Galleron died on the spot, while Decanay was referred to a hospital here after suffering head injuries and fracture.

Pateno suffered minor injuries and was already discharged from the hospital, she added.

Fernandez said that Coniendo was released from police custody on Thursday, Jan. 26, after the lapse of the reglementary detention.

She said the victims’ families have yet to decide on filing a case against the dump truck driver.
