NPA platoon leader wanted for murder arrested in Quezon

Authorities arrested a platoon leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) for attempted murder on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 25, in General Nakar, Quezon.

Christopher Avellano, 24, a resident of Sitio Pinamaypayan, Barangay Umiray, General Nakar, is the No.1 most wanted person on the regional level of the Police Regional Office 4-A.

Avellano, of the Larangan Yunit Guerilla (LYG), Guerilla Front-Narciso, Sub-Regional Military Area 4-A of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee, was involved in a series of encounters with government forces in General Nakar.

Avellano was arrested on a warrant for attempted murder issued by Judge Marylou Meneses, acting presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 65 in Infanta, Quezon dated Oct. 26, 2021. The court recommended a P120,000 bail for the suspect.

Meanwhile, two members of the Milisyang Bayan (MB) surrendered to authorities in Tagkawayan, Quezon on Wednesday.

Moises Zaide, a resident of Barangay Mapulot, Tagkawayan, and Romel Candelaria, a resident of Barangay Mansilay, Tagkawayan, yielded two caliber .38 revolvers, six time fuse, two blasting caps, and two packs of ammonium nitrate weighing 1.8 kilograms each.
