3 killed, 4 wounded in Cavite City grenade blast


CAVITE – A hand grenade explosion killed three and wounded four others, including the suspect, in Cavite City Tuesday night, Jan. 25.

The Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) identified the suspects as Arjay Camacho, 18, and alias Daniel, a minor.

Police said two groups of male teenagers engaged in a brawl and reportedly chased and threw stones at each other until barangay officials accosted them.

"The responding barangay tanod saw that one of the members of the group involved in the said trouble was holding a hand grenade with his finger inserted in the safety pin, and the suspect threatened the responding barangay tanods that he will remove the safety pin and attempt to blow it up," the police said.

The suspect allegedly removed the safety pin during the altercation, resulting in the blast.

Victims Julius Tindoc, Joseph Barrera, and Mark Gio Layug were killed in the explosion.

Three other victims, identified as Erickson Valenzuela, Alejandro Dizon, and Reymart Patricio, along with the suspect, Camacho, were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

The minor suspect, alias Daniel, on the other hand, was turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
