A total of 10 kilos of sibuyas!
Four days before their wedding, April Lyka Birrey and Erwin Nobis asked their good friend Carl Michael Montecarlo Poblacion of Wonderful Works to come up with a bridal bouquet with touches of onions. It was a challenge he couldn't pass up. Add to the fact that the couple is more than just a client, he had to make sure that he can make their dreams come true.
And so he did, and even more. He did not just add onions as accents, he came up with a full bouquet of onions for the bride! "Bridal bouquet lang sana kaso ginawan ko na lang ang buong entourage (I was only going to make a bridal bouquet, but I made for the whole entourage)," he tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle.
He also revealed that he used more than 10 kilos of onions, with four kilos alloted to the bridal bouquet. "Three kilos each for the maid of honor, two kils each for the bridesmaid, and one kilo each for the flower girls," he added.
It was no easy feat, as it took time to find enough red onions to buy. The next challenge was to arrange them into bouquets, and he had to find onions that had long roots and leaves to connect them together.
"It was only during the wedding when I showed them the final output. They were surprised and they couldn't believe that I made them. I even had the cake designed with onions," he muses, remembering the special day set last Jan. 23 at Solana Gardens Events Place in Iloilo City. The entourage even joked that they have something to bring home already—the onions!
