Truck kills cart-riding man in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY - A man died after a truck hit the carabao-pulled cart he was riding in an accident at Hacienda Bibiana, Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

The victim was identified as Ceasar Jaena, 42, of Barangay E. Lopez.

Executive Master Sgt. Joemarie Lachica, investigator of Silay City Police Station, said that a truck driven by a 39-year-old man was tailing the cart.

However, because it was not well-lighted, the truck driver crashed into the victim’s cart, causing the latter to fall into the ground.

Lachica said the victim might have hit the cart made of steel before landing into the ground.

The victim suffered head injuries and was taken to a hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

The carabao was unharmed when the cart fell into a canal, according to Lachica.

He said that both parties have reached a settlement and the truck driver was released from police custody after the lapse of reglementary detention.
