PNP-IAS recommends dismissal of police sarge tagged in P6.7B Manila shabu bust
The Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police (PNP-IAS) has recommended the dismissal from the service of a police sergeant who was tagged in the P6.7 billion worth of shabu that was seized in October last year in Sta. Ana, Manila.
IAS Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo said they have already submitted the recommendation on Jan. 9 for the dismissal of Police Master Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo, Jr. who also yielded some two kilos of shabu when he was arrested a few hours after the discovery of 990 kilos of shabu inside a lending company he allegedly owns.
Mayo's arrest was among the reasons behind the appeal of Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos for all the third level officers in the PNP, from full colonel to general, to submit a courtesy resignation.
Mayo was among those sent to Mindanao in 2016 supposedly as a punishment for being involved in illegal drugs. The PNP could not pursue a case against him during that time for lack of sufficient evidence.
But at the time of Mayo's arrest, he was working as an intelligence operative in Metro Manila for the PNP-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), the police unit in charge of the campaign against illegal drugs.
PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. said he is still waiting for the document from the IAS but assured of a quick action on the matter.
"For as long as they (IAS) have the recommendation, the result of the investigation is already for my approval. We will still have to check if the recommended punishment is appropriate for the supposed offense he (May) had committed," said Azurin.
Reacting on the report that Mayo did not submit a counter-affidavit during the IAS probe, Azurin said it was tantamount to waiving all his rights in the conduct of investigation.
"So we cannot fault whatever the recommendation of IAS because in this case, it is an administrative case," said Azurin.
Azurin also disclosed that the investigation as to who ordered the return of Mayo to PDEG is ongoing.
