PCUP Usec proposes inclusion of 'backyard fishponds' to DILG's 'HAPAG' project
Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) Undersecretary Elpidio R. Jordan Jr. said that he wants to include "backyard fishponds" in the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)'s "Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG) sa Barangay" project.

In a statement on Tuesday, Jan. 24, PCUP said that these fishponds will give HAPAG beneficiaries alternative food options and, in the future, a source of living.
On the same day, DILG Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr. formally launched the said project in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City.
It was also attended by PCUP Field Operations Division for NCR Assistant Chief of Operations Dennis Protasio.

HAPAG aims to support and provide food security to those in need in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.'s 8-point socioeconomic agenda.
It also targets to create a partnership between barangays and their respective local government units to carry out activities that promote alternative gardening activities such as container gardening, vertical gardening, square foot gardening, hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics.
PCUP noted that it has also signed a Pledge of Commitment with the DILG, the Department of Agriculture, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the Quezon City Food Security Task Force, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and various barangay leagues to formalize their active participation in the program.
