President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. was all praises for barangay health workers (BHWs) as he recognized their sacrifices during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Marcos said this as he met the regional, provincial, and municipal federated presidents and regional coordinators of the Barangay Health and Wellness (BHW) Partylist in a private meeting in Malacañang on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
In a video uploaded by Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM), the President stressed the importance of BHWs.
"We never argue with the importance of the barangay health workers and, for that matter, all the volunteers at the barangay level," he said.
"We know that we can always count on the BHW na unang lumalabas kahit na walang utos, kahit na walang instruction. Alam niyo na mga gagawin ninyo pagka nagkakaproblema (who are first to respond even without instructions. You know what to do when there is a problem)," he added.

According to RTVM, Marcos recognized the crucial role of BHWs during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, as they did most of the groundwork to visit houses and monitor the health status of their constituents.
The BHW Partylist represents healthcare workers, barangay nutrition scholars, barangay sanitary inspectors, and barangay service point officers in the Philippine Congress.
