Most of Mindanao may experience light to heavy rains due to the low pressure area (LPA) east of Davao City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
As of 10 a.m, the LPA was estimated at 575 kilometers east of Davao City.
PAGASA weather specialist Ana Clauren-Jorda said the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression as it may dissipate in the next few days.
However, the weather disturbance may still cause light to heavy rains in most of Mindanao within the next 24 hours.
Moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Caraga and Davao Region, while light to occasional heavy rains may persist over the rest of Mindanao.
“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.
PAGASA advised the public and concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to take all necessary precautionary measures.
Moreover, rains may also prevail over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”
The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will be partly cloudy to cloudy with light amihan rains.
