European, ASEAN envoys visit House of Representatives, but why?


Envoys from all over Europe and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) visited House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Wednesday, Jan. 25 on the occasion of the 45 years of dialogue relations between the ASEAN and the European Union (EU).

A photo released by the House of Representatives showed Romualdez posing for a commemorative photo with European and ASEAN ambassadors, as well as House members at Batasan Complex in Quezon City. Batasan Complex is the home of the Philippine congressmen.

The foreign envoys were also seen personally observing the proceedings at Wednesday's plenary session, where they were acknowledged and welcomed as guests by the presiding officers.

The presence of th EU and ASEAN ambassadors highlighted the ASEAN-EU Joint Photo Exhibition, which has launched that same afternoon at the South Wing Lobby of Batasan Complex.

Romualdez said the exhibit is a testament to the dynamism of the ASEAN-EU partnership, and genuinely narrates the storied friendship between them.

Romualdez, Leyte’s 1st district representative, is the president of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party.
