Deployment ban on Filipino workers to India lifted

Filipino workers who have existing contracts or are planning to work in India have been given the greenlight to push through their employment there.

This came after the Philippine government resumed the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) there after imposing a ban on it due to the South Asian country’s non-compliance with three conditions set by the Philippines.

According to the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi, workers who are newly-hired or whose contracts have been renewed are now permitted to fly provided that their contracts are duly authenticated by the embassy.

This came after the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) issued Advisory No. 2 Series of 2023.

"Accordingly, the Embassy advises the public that it is now accepting and processing applications for employment contract authentication," the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi added.

In December, the government suspended the deployment of Filipino workers to India due to the absence of three conditions: a law protecting OFWs, a ratification on the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (CRMW) and a bilateral labor agreement of the Philippines with India.
