ILOILO CITY -- A vehicle fell off a damaged bridge in Antique province, resulting in injuries to its driver and passenger, the Bureau of Fire Protection said on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
Based on the BFP report, the driver of the vehicle that came from Kalibo town in Aklan province claimed he failed to see the reflectorized warning sign in the damaged Paliwan Bridge which connects the towns of Bugasong and Laua-an in Antique province.

Fortunately, the driver and the passenger just suffered minor injuries.
The bridge collapsed during the onslaught of Tropical Storm Paeng in October last year.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has earlier ordered to expedite the repair, but the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is allegedly pushing a construction of a new bridge.
DPWH-6 Regional Director Nerie Bueno has earlier told the President that it was better to build a parallel bridge than repair a 48-year old structure that can no longer withstand the impact of climate change.
