Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have arrested an American wanted in the United States for allegedly sexually assaulting a disabled woman three years ago.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said 68-year-old Calvert Leroy Cummings was arrested last Jan. 17 in a subdivision in Novaliches, Quezon City by elements from the BI’s fugitive search unit.
Tansingco said Cummings’ arrest was sought by US authorities in Manila so he could stand trial for his alleged crime in the US.
An arrest warrant was issued against Cummings by a court in Aransas County, Texas in September 2019 after he was indicted on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a person with disability.
He allegedly fled to the Philippines afterwards to evade arrest and prosecution.
Cummings is now temporarily held at the BI’s facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig pending deportation proceedings.
