USAID project to boost MSMEs in digital economy lauded

The United States' project to strengthen private enterprise for the digital economy would bolster the Philippines' economic recovery, Anti-Red Tape Authority Secretary Ernesto Perez said.

Perez made the statement after the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Philippines- Strengthening Private Enterprise for the Digital Economy (SPEED) Project committed to make the digital economy more inclusive for businesses in the country.

“The implementation of USAID SPEED would expedite and enhance the Philippines' economic recovery while also assisting our Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to reap the benefits of the digital economy," Perez said.

The ARTA chief pledged the agency's support to initiatives that assist enterprises to prosper in the digital economy such as the USAID SPEED which was launched on Jan. 11.

He noted that the USAID SPEED "complements the ARTA mandate and supports the government’s whole-of-nation approach to make the Philippines a business-friendly nation."

It is a five-year project that intends to empower SMEs to participate in the digital economy through innovative and digital solutions that are safe, reliable, and affordable.

The project shall work with ARTA and its other partner agencies such as the Office of the President, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
