Upcoming PH envoy in UAE to push for OFW protection, developing ties
The upcoming ambassador of the Philippines to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has met other Filipino diplomats there to give his mandate on further strengthening the country’s ties with the Arab country.
Ambassador-designate Alfonso Ver told the men and women comprising the Philippine embassy, consulate and attached agencies in the UAE to cultivate deep engagement with the host country to ensure protection of Filipino migrant workers there.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Monday Ver’s meeting with other Filipino diplomats happened shortly after his arrival there on January 19.
"Our robust relations with the UAE, evidenced by the recent expansion in the areas of cooperation between our two countries, is hinged on the enormous goodwill generated by the Filipino people in this country," Ver said.
For him, Filipinos in UAE are not only significant in number but also in their impact, considering their expertise in various fields and good character.
"Therefore, our twin priorities of promoting the welfare of Filipinos in this country and further deepening Philippine ties with the UAE, go hand in hand, as one opens the door to the other," Ver concluded.
