Rains to persist due to LPA's trough, amihan

Cloudy and rainy weather may likely persist in most parts of the country due to the low pressure area (LPA) and northeast monsoon, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, Jan. 23.

PAGASA last spotted the LPA at 495 kilometers east-southeast of Davao City.

The weather disturbance remains less likely to intensify into a tropical depression but its trough or extension may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region.

PAGASA said cloudy and rainy weather may also prevail over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, and Aurora due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”

Those in areas affected by the trough of LPA and amihan are advised to remain vigilant during moderate to heavy rains as they may cause flooding or landslides.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light amihan rains.

The rest of the country may also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
