Bulakenyos celebrated the 124th anniversary of the First Philippine Republic and the proclamation of the Malolos Constitution at the historic Barasoain Church in the City of Malolos, Bulacan on Monday, Jan. 23.
Before over a hundred Bulakenyos, Gov. Daniel R. Fernando emphasized the importance of the First Philippine Republic that was engraved thoroughly in the country's history.
Fernando said that the lives, energies, and all sacrifices of the Filipino heroes, and the declaration of democracy during those days cannot be considered an absolute triumph if the Filipinos today are disunited.
The First Philippine Republic was inaugurated on January 23, 1899 at the said church after so many long years of trials, pains and hardships encountered by Filipino forefathers who fought for democracy.
Also present at the event were Bulacan Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro, First District Rep. Danilo A. Domingo, Bulacan Third District Rep. Lorna Silverio, OIC Executive Director of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines Carminda R. Arevalo, Malolos City Mayor Christian D. Natividad and his Vice Mayor Miguel Alberto T. Bautista; Col. Relly B. Arnedo, Bulacan police director; Department heads led by Provincial Administrator Antonia V. Constantino and employees of the provincial government.
