ICD Section IX Philippine Islands to hold 55th convocation and banquet

The International College of Dentists (ICD), Section IX Philippine Islands will hold its 55th annual convocation and banquet on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023 at the Hilton Manila, Newport City (across Newport World Resorts) Pasay City. The ICD is an international honorary organization of dental professionals dedicated to the recognition of outstanding professional achievements, meritorious service, and the continued progress of the dental profession and for the benefit of the community.

With the theme “Embracing the Tides of Change,” the new administration pays tribute to all its members who in spite of the ongoing pandemic, continue to adhere to the College’s motto “Recognizing Service and the Opportunity to Serve” and bring relevant contributions to both their profession and the community. The convocation will be graced by the ICD International President, Dr. Ho-Youl Chang, who will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker. This was made possible by the efforts of Councilman Master Life Fellow Hermogenes P. Villareal.

Among the highlights of the event are the investiture of six new fellows and the induction into office of the new set of officers.

The new set of officers for 2023 are: Dr. Maria Sheryl Villareal-Borja, president; Dr. Iluminada L. Viloria, president – elect; Dr. Olegario G. Clemente Jr., vice president; Dr. Mercedes Glendora De Villa, secretary; Dr. Gladys T. So, treasurer; Dr. Walter U. Sy, auditor; Dr. Apolonia S. Tanbonliong, PRO; Dr. Evelyn Uy-Co and Dr. Aimee Yang-Co, directors; Dr. Hermogenes P. Villareal, councilor; and Dr. Vivian Gabaldon, editor. The outgoing president is Dr. Fidel S. Bondoc.

ICD Section IX Philippine Islands, with 130 members nationwide, has been recognized as an autonomous section since 1966. Since then it had several laudable projects and relevant contributions to both professional and community development with projects such as Faculty Development, Student Leadership Program, Scholarship, Dental Outreach, Tree and Mangrove Planting, and ICD- Gawad Kalinga Village.

ICD is a pre-eminent honorary organization of the world’s leading dentists from around the world, who work to improve the profession through sharing and disseminating advances in dental knowledge to benefit their respective communities. Conceived in 1920 and based in Michigan, United States, it is the world’s leading honor society for dentists with over 12,000 members in 138 countries. Fellowship in the College involves a rigorous, peer review process leading to the recognition of the individual’s outstanding professional achievement, meritorious service and dedication to the continued progress of dentistry for the benefit of humankind.
