Here's why you should be careful with online dating, according to Barzaga

Cavite 4th district Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. took to Facebook on late Saturday night, Jan. 21 to share a very important warning to the public: be careful with online dating.

In his post, Barzaga shared the story of a local woman who gained a foreigner boyfriend through online dating.

A few months into the long-distance lovers' relationship, the foreigner boyfriend sent a package for the Filipina, the veteran congressman said.

The woman went to pick up the package at the post office, only to discover later that the parcel contained canned goods with what appeared to be illegal drugs.

According to Barzaga, the woman made the right decision to immediately report the incident to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). She also, correctly, didn't touch the canned goods after seeing the alleged narcotics.

Otherwise, she could have been in trouble with the law, Barzaga suggested.

"Dahil dito, ang lahat ay pinapayuhang mag-ingat sa online dating (Because of this, everybody is advised to be careful with online dating)," he said.
