DSWD continues to monitor earthquake-hit provinces

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is continuously coordinating with the local government units (LGUs) of earthquake-hit Leyte, Camarines Norte, and Davao Occidental for possible technical assistance and resource augmentation.

The coordination and monitoring are being done through its Field Offices (FOs) in the concerned provinces, DSWD said on Friday, Jan. 20.

At least P417,000 worth of relief assistance was already distributed by DSWD FO Region 8 to 364 families affected by a magnitude 5.1 earthquake that hit Leyte on Jan. 15, DSWD added.

Three hundred sixty-four houses were damaged by the natural disaster in the said area, it continued.

Camarines Norte was jolted by magnitude 4.8 and 4.7 earthquakes on Jan. 17 and 18, respectively, while a 7.3-magnitude quake rocked Davao Occidental on Jan. 18.

DSWD assured that as of Jan. 19, over P1.2 billion worth of standby and stockpile funds are available for response operations in these distressed areas.

"Of the amount, more than P102 million is the available standby funds in the Central Office and DSWD FOs, while there are 498,917 family food packs worth more than P312 million," it added.

There is also over P857 million worth of food and non-food items prepositioned in various DSWD FOs nationwide.
