BACOLOD CITY – The number of dengue cases here last year went up by 190 percent, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) said.

Dr. Grace Tan, CESU head, said they recorded a total of 1,020 cases, including 14 deaths, in 2022, 189.8 percent or 668 higher than the 352 and three fatalities logged two years ago.
Mansilingan was the barangay with the highest number of cases last year with 122; followed by Taculing, 84; Estefania, 70; Tangub, 69; Singcang-Airport, 63; Villamonte, 62; Alijis, 54; Mandalagan, 51; Cabug, 49; and Sum-ag, 46.
The age range of patients was one month to 86-years-old while the age group with the most number of cases was one to 10-years-old.
Barangay Mansilingan had the most number of fatalities with three; two each in Barangays Granada, Tangub, and Taculing; and one in Barangays 8, 12, Singcang, Pahanocoy, and Sum-ag.
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes, according to the World Health Organization.
The Centers for Disease Control in the United States said the most common symptom of dengue is fever with any of the following: Nausea, vomiting, rash, and aches and pains (eye pain, typically behind the eyes, muscle, joint, or bone pain).
