A college student, who wakes up at dawn everyday to check and feed his livestock, was dismayed upon learning that five of his goats were stolen from his small farm at Sitio Gulod, Barangay San Vicente in Sta Maria, Bulacan on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Nikko Francisco Fernando, 20, a third year college student of Bulacan Agricultural State College in Sta. Maria, said the five stolen goats are all pregnant.

Teary eyed, Fernando told Manila Bulletin that the thieves managed to enter the farm by cutting off the wire of the fence and destroying the wood flooring of the animal house. He said his father and mother immediately reported the incident to the nearest police station.

"It was really a bad day for me, because I spent a lot of time with my pets after school, especially on days that there were no classes," he said, adding that he did not think that after more than a year of his livestock business, this would happen to him.

Aside from goats, Fernando’s mini farm has chickens, turkeys, ducks, and black native pigs.

Fernando said he makes sure that his animals are being fed with healthy, safe, and nutritious food for his buyers because livestock farming helps so much his family and his studies.
