Two female fighters bow out in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships

Althea Shine Pores and Mariel Talandrata stumbled in their respective opening-round assignments Thursday, Jan. 19, in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

Pores yielded to a familiar foe in Thipsatcha Yodwaree of Thailand, 5-0, in a rematch of their women’s minimumweight (45-48kg) bout in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships two months ago in Amman, Jordan.

The Filipina bet failed to impose her will as Yodwaree dominated the match throughout with 30-27 scores from the Indonesian, UAE, Sri Lankan and Iranian judges, and 30-26 from the Kazakh judge.

Talandrata followed suit a few minutes later with a 5-0 defeat from Moldir Toikova in the women's light flyweight division (48-50kg) as the Kazakh fighter earned the judges’ nods with 30-26 (Hungary, Turkey, Tajikistan), 30-27 (Saudi Arabia), and 30-25 (India) scores.

Men’s hostilities resumed Friday with Mark Lester Durens, Aaron Jude Bado and Jericho Acaylar clashing with their respective foes in the quarterfinal round.

Durens, who earned an opening-round bye in the men’s minimumweight (48kg) class, tangles with Nepal’s Prasad Upreti, even as Bado collides against Sri Lanka’s Pasindu Umayanga Mihiran in the men’s flyweight (51kg) division.

Acaylar, for his part, hopes to continue his winning ways following a first-round victory over Tajikistan’s Khusravkhon Rakhimov when he squares off with Indonesia’s Asri Udin.
