Vice President Sara Duterte has vowed to fulfill her campaign promises of generating more jobs and strengthening the country's peace and education in her capacity as the second highest leader in the country.
In a meet-and-greet with members of UniTeam in Kalibo, Aklan on Friday, Duterte made the pronouncement as she assured them that she will do what she normally did when she was still the mayor of Davao City.
"Just what I did noong mayor ako sa (when I was still a mayor of) Davao City—my promise to all Dabawenyos—kung ano 'yung gagawin ko as city mayor, ay 'yun din ang gagawin ko as Vice President (what I did when I was still a mayor, I will also do now as a vice president)," she said.
There are three things that the government will pursue, according to Duterte. These are job opportunities, business and peace for the people.
She cited the Office of the Vice President's (OVP's) "Mag Negosyo Ta 'Day" and "Peace 911" programs, which aim to help stimulate entrepreneurial activities, create employment and accelerate economic growth across the Philippines.
That would allow "struggling Filipinos to gain or regain their confidence and financial independence," the OVP said.
Serving also as the head of the Department of Education, Duterte said she is hopeful that the country's education system will improve despite challenges.
"It is quite a challenge because kung nakikita ninyo ang performance natin sa international assessments, nasa last talaga tayo (if you can see our performance, we always lag behind in international assessments). That is why we are working very hard right now sa Department of Education (DepEd) to improve the performance ng ating mga estudyante," she said.
She also gave the latest update of the DepEd about forming the Basic Education Report for 2023, where they are evaluating the problems in basic education and establishing further plans for the improvement of the sector.
