Suzuki launches the new Ertiga Hybrid
Suzuki Philippines Inc. (SPH) has a new way for families to move around efficiently. That is with the new Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid.
Launched last Monday, this seven-seater Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) is now a full-fledged hybrid. This means it boasts of both a petrol engine, as well as a battery and electric motor.
Smart Hybrid

Power from the battery can power the electric motor to move the car, as well as assist the gasoline engine during standing starts and acceleration.
The internal combustion side is Suzuki’s fuel-efficient 1.5-litre petrol engine. It is mated to the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), which replaces the conventional alternator. The ISG then charges the battery and electric motor.
Besides the hybrid propulsion system, it’s also fitted with a few other systems to help reduce fuel consumption. There’s the Engine Auto Stop Start System (EASS) which automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped and in idle, like at a stoplight, to reduce fuel consumption.
There’s also a new cruise control which, when set, allows the vehicle to maintain a set speed, reducing the driver’s need to have their foot on the wheel.
The powertrain is connected to a choice of either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual.
Ownership advantages
Prior to its launch, Suzuki and the Automotive Association of the Philippines (AAP) conducted a fuel economy run where the new Ertiga Hybrid consumed 12.54 km/L. This adds up to 7.6% better than the regular non-hybrid engine Ertiga on city driving.
Besides the markedly reduced fuel consumption, owners of new Ertiga Hybrids are covered by the EVIDA law implementing rules and regulations, which includes exemption from MMDA’s number coding. It also pays further down the line with a 15% discount on vehicle registration, and use of the priority lane when registering the vehicle or franchise.
Great features

Besides the hybrid powertrain, the Ertiga is also packed with a significant number of features. There’s the integrated audio system controls mounted on its D-shaped steering wheel. The driver gets a 4.2-inch full color TFT LCD multi-information display in between the speedo and tach dials. There’s also an automatic headlamp function with “follow me home” time delay.
Passengers will love the 10-inch touch screen audio entertainment system with Smartlink connectivity. As before, the Ertiga’s interior has comfortable 3 row seating for up to 7 occupants. The seats are easily reconfigurable to suit the needs of passengers or cargo.
Safety features

For safety, it is now equipped with hill-hold-control and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) along with dual air-bag and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Braking Distribution (EBD).
The Ertiga’s structure is based on Suzuki’s TECT (Total-Effective Control Technology) and new HEARTECT platform. This keeps the body light and rigid, while kaaping it’s ability to absorb collision impacts and also improves driving driving dynamics.

The new Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid is available in four variants, with pricing starting at P954,000 for the GA M/T; P1,068,000 for the GL M/T; P1,103,000 for the GL A/T; and P1,153,000 for the GLX A/T.
