Marikina LGU extends business permit renewal deadline

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro announced on Thursday, Jan. 19, the extension of the deadline for business permit renewal in a bid to help small entrepreneurs and micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) operators adversely affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and other economic issues the country is currently facing.

In a Facebook post, the city government said Teodoro signed Ordinance No. 001, Series of 2023 or the Ordinance Extending the Period for the Renewal of Business Permits without Surcharges and Penalties, which extends the deadline for business permit renewal from Jan. 20 to March 31.

“Ang extension na ito ay para hindi magmulta ang mga negosyanteng magpoproseso pa lamang ng kanilang renewal, para magkaroon sila ng mas mahabang panahon at hindi mamultahan hanggang Marso (This extension allows business owners to process their renewals without penalties until the month of March and for them to have adequate time to settle their payments)," Teodoro said.

Aside from the said ordinance, Teodoro also signed other measures alleviating the burden of other business owners and residents in the city during these trying times.

The other measures are Ordinance No. 006 Series of 2023 (Ordinance Granting Amnesty on Surcharges and Interests of Delinquent Business Taxpayers in the City of Marikina until March 31, 2023) and Ordinance No. 007 Series of 2023 (Ordinance Extending the Grant of Amnesty on Interests of Delinquent Real Property Taxpayers in the City of Marikina until March 31, 2023).

The mayor also inked an ordinance granting amnesty for business tax and real property tax payers.

“Dapat sila bigyan ng pagkakataon na makapagbayad nang walang surcharge at interest, multa o penalty. ‘Yung principal amount na lang ang babayaran para makabawas sa bigat ng alalahanin nila, para makabangon ang lahat (They should be given the chance to pay without surcharge, interest, or penalties. Only the principal amount must be paid to help lessen their burden so all of them will recover)," Teodoro said.
