The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Friday, Jan. 20, that it has completed a new flood control structure at the Peñaranda River that will protect residential and farmland communities in San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija.

DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino said that the residential area in Barangay San Roque will now be safeguarded by the newly-built 378-lineal-meter river wall.
It will also minimize crop losses as it will protect the agricultural lands from heavy inland flooding which has proven to be the headache of the local farmers in the past, the DPWH official added.
The project costs P63 million and the fund was sourced from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022.
The DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office (DEO), which supervised the project, said it was putting great importance in implementing projects that will alleviate flooding especially in food production areas in Nueva Ecija, which is recognized as the “Rice Granary of the Philippines.”
