DA, Misamis Occidental distribute P5,000 aid to rice farmers


ILIGAN CITY – The provincial government of Misamis Occidental led by Gov. Henry S. Oaminal and the Department of Agriculture (DA) have distributed P5,000 cash subsidy to 9,400 rice farmers to help augment their needs amid the calamity that struck the province recently.

"This administration will provide what is needed; that is our leadership thrust, and what is applicable on the ground towards the objective is what we will do," said Oaminal.

This week, 9,400 eligible farmers from three cities and 14 municipalities received assistance.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18, 3,268 farmers received aid at Bay Front Arena in Oroquieta City – 891 from Oroquieta, Lopez Jaena (295), Aloran (984), Panaon (375), and Jimenez (723).

On Thursday, Jan. 19, 2,920 farmers from the municipalities of Plaridel (2,050), Calamba (253), Baliangao (533), Sapang Dalaga (28), and Concepcion (25), received aid at the Calamba Gymnasium.

On Friday, Jan. 20, aid was released at the Working Congressman and Sports Complex to 3,224 beneficiaries – Sinacaban, 391; Tudela, 425; Ozamiz City, 628; Clarin, 755; Bonifacio, 578; and Tangub City, 448.

The province will also provide them additional assistance such as fertilizer, farm tools, and seed subsidies.

The subsidy is part of the province’s and the Department of Agriculture's initiatives to assist farmers tilling two hectares or less under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) of the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA).
