BAGUIO CITY -- Some 100 indigents became recipients of Baguio Filipino-Chinese community’s gift-giving activities held on Friday, Jan. 20, in connection with the Spring Festival celebration here.

According to Peter Ng, chairperson of the Spring Festival celebration in Baguio 2023, the indigents were from Barangay Apugan-Loakan, Kias, Atok Trail and Purok Magsaysay, Loakan Proper. Bags of groceries were given to the beneficiaries.
“We have been doing this traditionally in the city of Baguio since the beginning of the Spring Festival celebration; it has been 25 years now,” said Ng, currently the president of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FCCCII)-Baguio chapter.
“This small gift is from the contribution of the Filipino-Chinese community in the city, to show support for the programs and development projects of our government," added Ng.
According to Ng, after two years due to the pandemic, the fun and colorful parade will be seen again for the Spring Festival celebration on January 27.
Ng said the FCCCII assured a closer bond between the Filipino and Chinese communities in the celebration of the annual Spring festival which is one of the major community-led activities in the city.
He said that the assimilation and blending of the two unique cultures through the annual celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year will definitely promote unity, peace and prosperity for all the people living in the city.
"The goals and objectives of the annual celebration of the Chinese New Year is to promote better understanding and cooperation between the Filipino and Chinese communities in order to strengthen their historical friendship and unity as a people," explained Ng.
The local government and the Filipino-Chinese community will be celebrating the 25th annual Spring festival in the city which started way back in 1998 followed by the institutionalization of the annual event by virtue of Ordinance No. 018, series of 1999.
