ILOILO CITY – The New Year celebration in Western Visayas region was generally peaceful, police said.

"The peaceful celebration is attributed to the collaboration, coordination, cooperation, and personal commitment of all contributing units and the active support of our stakeholders," said Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco, director of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6.
PRO-6 recorded only one stray bullet, one indiscriminate firing, and six firecracker-related incidents from Dec. 16 to Jan. 1, compared to the same period last year with three stray bullet, one indiscriminate firing, and 81 firecracker-related incidents.
Major Grace Socorro Borio, PRO-6 spokesperson, said only two persons were arrested for illegal sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.
Francisco said none of the 12,755 policemen assigned in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod illegally discharged their service firearms during the New Year’s Eve revelry.
