Miner drowns in Benguet waterfall

SABLAN, Benguet – A 21-year-old miner drowned in a waterfall in Poblacion, Sablan, Benguet on Monday, Jan. 2.

The Sablan Municipal Police Station identified the victim as Leoncio Joe Balag-ey Lang-ay, a resident of Sitio Naiba, Tuding, Itogon, Benguet.

The victim and his two friends went swimming in the Towing Waterfalls at noon.

He dived into a deep part of the waterfall but failed to emerge.

They sought the help of authorities who discovered the victim and applied first aid.

However, rescuers failed to revive him and was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

His friends said he did not know how to swim.
