Construction of the Bulacan high impact projects are being expedited by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in a bid to further enhance cost-efficient economic activities in the province and neighboring areas.
The projects include the P2,004,728.13 Bypass, Malolos Circumferential Road, P200,000,000 Bonga Menor Flyover at Plaridel Bypass Road in Bustos and the P485,000,000 Guiguinto Bypass Road.
DPWH Bulacan First District Engineering Office chief Henry Alcantara said the construction on the Guiguinto Bypass Road, which involves the construction of a new road which includes two bridges and other cost efficient road improvements, started in 2019 and will run beyond 2025.
Currently the physical accomplishment for the project for 2019 is 100 percent, 98 percent for 2020 and 60 percent for 2021.
Environmental and social concerns, specifically road-right-of-way (RROW) acquisition are major issues faced by the DPWH in the construction of the project.
Assistant District Engineer Brice Hernandez noted that the project aims to address the severe traffic congestion on two primary national roads namely Daang Maharlika and Plaridel Bypass Road and the persistent bottleneck at the Sta. Rita and Tabang Exit.
Although Daang Maharlika is a national road, Hernandez explained that its width is narrow which slows down traffic flow especially during rush hours.
With the completion of the bypass road which connects Daang Maharlika to the Plaridel Bypass Road, motorists coming from Plaridel and farther North bound to Manila will be relieved of the traffic jam at the Sta. Rita and Tabang Exits.
The rerouting of vehicles is expected to decrease traffic congestion by at least 30 percent and speed up travel time by as much as 50 percent.
From 2019 to 2021, work on the Bypass, Malolos City Circumferential Road from Sto. Nino, Paombong to Tikay, Malolos is 100 percent complete while the accomplishment on the roadway in 2022 is currently at 20 percent.
Aside from RROW issues, the DPWH noted that no specific number of trees and its classifications are yet identified.
Started in 2019, the construction of the project will run beyond 2025.
From 2019 to 2020, Hernandez noted that work on the Bonga Menor Flyover at the Plaridel Bypass Road in Bustos is 100 percent complete while the accomplishment for 2022 is 74.54 percent with the project running beyond 2023.
The project will provide an alternative route that is expected to decongest the traffic snarl on accident prone areas along General Alejo Santos Highway and the Plaridel Bypass Road.
Earlier, three pumping stations built by the DPWH have dramatically reduced the flooding in the low-lying areas of Bocaue and Marilao towns in Bulacan to manageable levels.
Alcantara said the first pumping station worth P49.494 million has eased Barangays Bunlo and Lolomboy from extremely high floods during heavy rains.
On the other hand, the second and third pumping stations, worth P49.499 million and and P92.581 respectively, also reduced the flooding in Barangays Binang First and portions of Marilao town.
