2 dead, 7 hurt as truck crashes into ravine, rams house in Tacloban City

TACLOBAN CITY – Two persons were killed while seven others were injured after a truck fell into a ravine and rammed a house on the Maharlika Bypass Road in Barangay 110 Utap, this city, before dawn on New Year’s Day.

The fatalities were identified as Laica Encomio and her cousin Rhemy Cuizon, both 23, and residents of Barangay 110 Utap.

Investigation said that the driver lost control of the speeding truck in a blind curve and plunged into a ravine.

The truck crashed into the house of Nolando and Merly Cuizon who were having a party with the other victims.

The fatalities were pinned under the truck and had to be extracted. A one-year-old baby in the house was unharmed.

The injured were taken to a hospital where Laica and Rhemy died while being treated.

Authorities are conducting a follow-up investigation and pursuing the unidentified driver who escaped.
