At least 15 people were injured when a passenger jeepney collided with a dump truck in Quezon City on Monday, Jan. 2.
According to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) report, the jeepney driver, Debbie John Elbanbuena Salazar, was traveling along northbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue at 12:20 p.m. when the vehicle lost its brake and hit the left rear wheel of a dump truck.
Police said the dump truck driven by Ruel Almuguera Balangbang was in a stop position at the corner of Soliven Street, Brgy. Commonwealth, when the accident happened.
Fifteen passengers of the jeepney, including the driver, were injured and brought to the East Avenue Medical Center.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
QC Mayor Joy Belmonte said the city government is ready to provide any medical and financial assistance for the speedy recovery of the victims.
"Nalulungkot tayo sa sinapit ng ilan nating mga kababayan sa QC na nasangkot sa isang aksidente sa Commonwealth Avenue. Inatasan ko na rin ang mga kaukulang tanggapan na tingnan ang kalagayan ng mga biktima (We are saddened by what happened to some of our fellow citizens in QC who met an accident on Commonwealth Avenue. I have instructed the offices to look into the condition of the victims)", Belmonte said.
