Scattered rain showers, thunderstorms persist in S. Luzon, E. Visayas

The shear line—a boundary line where the cold air from the northeast monsoon and warm winds from the easterlies meets—may continue to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over parts of southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas in the next 24 hours, the State weather bureau said on Thursday, Jan. 19.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that moderate to heavy rains may cause flooding or landslides in Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz, and Northern Samar.
Cloudy and rainy weather may also prevail in Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Aurora, Laguna, and Oriental Mindoro due to northeast monsoon or “amihan.”
Moderate to heavy monsoon rains may also cause flooding or landslides in these areas, PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon because of the amihan.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy condition with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said that they have not monitored a low pressure area (LPA) or tropical cyclone that may enter the country’s area of responsibility until the weekend.
However, Estareja said there is a possibility that a low pressure area will form southeast of Mindanao, outside the Philippine area of responsibility, by weekend.
The trough or extension of the potential LPA may bring rains over the eastern part of Mindanao on Sunday, Jan. 22, and throughout Mindanao by Monday, Jan. 23.
