New cybersecurity roadmap seeks to protect PH from 'complex cyber threats' – DICT
The forthcoming cybersecurity plan will protect the Philippines from the “increasingly complex” threats in cyberspace, said Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo.

The cyberspace – a platform where countless information and data converge – has opened many doors towards technological advancement. But despite it being beneficial and convenient, the “vastness of the virtual environment” likewise sets users to greater threats and risks.
“Ang cybersecurity ay isang cross-cutting issue na naaapektuhan tayong lahat, kaya nga ang kailangan po dito ay whole government approach whole nation approach (Cybersecurity is a cross-cutting issue that affects us all, so what we need here is not only a government approach, but a whole nation approach),” said Lamentillo during the Laging Handa public briefing on Thursday, Jan. 19.
“Para sa ating bagong cybersecurity plan, we’re gearing towards a May 2023 deadline. We will inform the public as soon as this is made available (For our new cybersecurity plan, we’re gearing towards a May 2023 deadline. We will inform the public as soon as this is made available),” she added.
In December 2022, DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy urged the 19th Congress to allocate additional funds for the strengthening of the country’s cybersecurity, reiterating that the department’s primary concern is building up the Philippine cyberdefense capability.
According to Uy, this will secure the country against “organized cyber criminals” as well as state-sponsored attacks.
